The Beatles studio albums were originally digitally remastered for CD back in the late 80s at that time mastering for CD was a pretty new art and since then much has been found out about how to master best but most important is that at that time the digital technology was still in it’s infancy in comparison to today.

All of the advances in digital mastering and all of the knowledge learned on how to most effectively remaster original analog tapes digitally have been put to use with the Beatles remasters of 2009. On September 9, 2009 The Beatles released both The Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set and The Beatles in Mono. And both of these box sets sound lovely. If you’ve yet to hear ‘em, I recommend you get your hands on The Beatles remasters as soon as you can.

Which kind of Beatles remastered should you get? Well for this guy the answer was, without a doubt, “all of them” but if you can only afford you’ll most likely want to go with the Beatles in Stereo since it contains all of their studio LPs and most people do want to listen to the stereo versions more than the mono.

The mono set is aimed at hardcore Beatles fanatics who want to hear all of the differences between the mono and stereo mixes (and sometimes they are really quite different from each other) and for those who want to hear the Fab Four how they originally listened to them (this, of course, applies to the original fans who were there for The Beatles in the flesh back in the 60s.)

On December 8th there will be a 3rd choice: The Beatles USB Memory Stick. This USB memory stick contains the Beatles entire stereo remastered box set in a little stick you can easily hold in your hand. Isn’t that cool? And it contains all of the albums in 2 formats; better than CD quality 24bit FLAC and 320kbps mp3s.

That “better than CD quality” part is what will bring in plenty of audiophiles but for most people it is the mp3s that will that’ll be added to the iPod.

Harold Laurence Quesenberry recommends this Beatles Online Store for all of your Beatles shopping needs. There’s plenty of other Beatles stuff available besides The Beatles Stereo & Mono Box Sets.
